PASTOR'S CORNER

“Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in
Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem. And he did what was right in
the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.”
2CHRON.26:3-4
The book of 2Chronicles chronicles the lives of the Kings that ruled Judah. While some
of them did what was right in the sight of the Lord others failed to do so. One important
phrase in the record of these kings is what they did in the sight of the Lord and not in
the sight of people.
Those who did what was right in the sight of the Lord succeeded while those that did
what was not right in His sight failed. This implies that how well we do in the eyes of the
Lord determines our success or otherwise.
Living our lives with this consciousness is an instruction from God. Note what God told
Abraham and by extension to us because we are the seed of Abraham and partakers of
the covenant God made with him.
“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said
unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Gen.17:1
Perfect here implies maturity. This implies that the extent to which we live in the
consciousness of God’s presence and do what is right in His sight determines our level
of maturity as believers.
Living to please men rather than God will disqualify a man from God’s service.
“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people
were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” Gal.1:10. NLT. “For we speak as
messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to
please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.” 1THESS.2:4 NLT
Seeking men’s approval rather than the approval that comes from God will hinder a
person from walking in faith. “How can you believe, who receive honor from one
another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?” John 5:44.
